“The Civil War Comes to Spring Place” is the theme for the 15th Annual Spring Place Community Festival set for Saturday, August 18 at the Old Spring Place Methodist Churchoff GA HWY 225 South. A new and used book sale, food concessions, a bake sale, an indoor and outdoor flea market, a raffle, and other activities will begin at 8 a.m. Highlighting the day is the auction which will include artist prints, paintings, book sets, antiques, rugs, and gift cards donated by area businesses! The auction will begin at 10:30. The day will also feature a display of Civil War maps, artifacts, and pictures as well as a guided tour of the Spring Place Cemetery where more than 100 veterans of the Civil War are buried. Proceeds from the festival will go to the Old Spring Place Methodist Church Preservation Fund of the Whitfield-Murray Historical Society. Members of the SCV will be at the cemetery from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the 18th to take visitors on a Civil War tour of the Spring Place cemetery. The cost is only $3 per person, $5 for a couple, and $1 for youth ages 6-16. Those under six are free. Proceeds from the tours will go toward the continuing efforts of both the SCV and the historical society to preserve the Civil War past of Murray County.
