The Blunt House at 506 South Thornton Avenue announces the showing of its bridal collection every Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The showing features ten bridal gowns from the mid-1800s through the 1940s. These include the wedding dress of Lillie Blunt (daughter of Ainsworth and Elizabeth Blunt) when she married Thomas Miles Kirby in 1872. The oldest dress belonged to Carlene Curtis Blunt who married Mr. Blunt’s grandson, John Blunt, Jr. in Illinois. Others include the wedding dresses of Maggie Pitner Manly, Eugenia Biddings Jarvis, Dorothy Manning Davies, Elizabeth Little Pike and a McCutchen bride. The collection also includes dresses worn by the wedding guests, trousseau clothing, invitations, vintage sheet music, and vintage books on wedding planning and preparations. The actual bouttoniere and corsage worn by the last Blunt living in the house, Emery Blunt Kirby and her husband John Allen Baxley, are also on display as is a private collection of vintage wedding cake toppers. Come join the docents of the Blunt house to look back on the wedding experience of another era.
